The group releases its debut album
YG Entertainment’s rising K-pop group, Babymonster, has released their highly anticipated debut album, Drip. The full-length album features seven new genre-spanning tracks, including one of the title tracks which was composed by the legendary rapper and singer-songwriter, G-Dragon, and a new remix of their record-breaking debut single, “Batter Up,” and their most recent single, “Forever.” This marks the quickest turnaround for YG in releasing a full-length album following the debut of a rookie group.
In celebration, the group has released the new music video for the title track, “Drip,” following the release of the “Clik Clak” on Wednesday. YG recently teased the first half of “Clik Clak,” a hip-hop track that features all seven members rapping. The teaser amassed nearly six million views in just two weeks.
Babymonster is the first girl group to launch under the K-pop label, YG, since Blackpink and they’ve already been widely recognized globally as one to watch.
Drip follows the success of BabyMonster’s record-breaking EP [BABYMONS7ER], which was released in April and sold over 400,000 copies. The EP includes Babymonster’s smash hits, “Batter Up,” “Sheesh,” and “Like That,” which was written for the band by global superstar Charlie Puth.
“Sheesh” reached No. 16 on the Billboard Global Chart (excluding the US) and No. 33 on the Billboard 200 Chart, remaining for 18 and 14 consecutive weeks, respectively. The music video debuted at No. 1 on YouTube’s global music video ranking and is soon to reach 300 million views. The music video surpassed 100 million views on YouTube in just ten days, setting a new record for the fastest debut song by a K-pop girl group to reach that milestone. The previous record was set by Babymonster’s debut single, “Batter Up,” which reached 100 million views in 18 days. The song garnered 22.5 million views in 24 hours and has since broken two YouTube streaming records – it reached 100 million views in just 18 days and 200 million views in 53 days.
Babymonster recently performed in Tokyo at Japan’s largest music festival, Summer Sonic 2024, alongside some of the biggest names on the global music scene, including Jon Batiste, Maneskin, Lil Yacthy, Laufey, Tyla, and Greta Van Fleet, and at the Singapore F1 Grand Prix, where they received raves about their live performance. They’ve also made a splash in the fashion world and serve as global ambassadors for Adidas.
